Being True to YOU

in Dharma

This weekend I did two things that were in line with my deepest desire to be ME. Both were a financial stretch, which might have stopped me in the past. But no more! When there’s a choice between an authentically blissful option or a fear-based one I am committed to going with bliss.

I attended the Children’s and Young Adult Literature Conference at The Loft Literary Center on Saturday and Sunday. With the busy-ness of my schedule this year—working almost full time at the Montessori school and running Tree of Life Yoga—my creative writing has, too often, been an afterthought.

I’ve been here before: letting life take over instead of being proactive about taking time for what I LOVE. Even, I believe, what I came to this planet to do. Not to say that the work with children isn’t important. Or that the work I do at Tree of Life Yoga is not my Dharma. But, I NEED to create. For years it was through Fiber Art, then writing Creative Nonfiction, and in the last few years writing children’s picture books. I feel most like my Self, and most in sync with the Universe, when I’m creating.

Attending the conference helped me to re-up my commitment to literary writing. It helped me to expand into a bigger vision of what I can create, and gave me tools for how to do it. And it renewed my energy to get it out there. What a gift to myself!

The second BIG gift was to sign up for Kris Ward’s Abundant Yogi PHD program. I am so psyched to create the life’s work that fits me perfectly, and will reach more people who will truly benefit from my work. A big leap and a big gift to have the faith in myself and my work to up the ante in this way. I’m so psyched! And a little tired…but before I unplug and get in the essential oil-infused steaming bathtub, let me ask you:

How do you honor the TRUE YOU? Is there a gift, or two, you could give yourself to really reach for what you want? And take it!

As Howard Thurman said:

“There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.”

Let me know what you give yourself. Your gift(s) to the TRUE YOU. Or let me know how I can support you in taking a big leap into the life you’ve always wanted to live.
