Everybody’s got a To Do list. Especially at this time of year when the winter holidays loom and the end of the year is just a sprint away. Well, Pssssst, let me whisper a little secret in your ear. [Here it is, ready? I'm cupping my hands near your ear...] It’s more important to have a NOT To Do List.
Uh huh, you heard right. I’ve got one of my own, and I will check off—guilt-free—those things that aren’t serving my highest intention. I’ll admit, it takes some courage, especially for a raised-Catholic woman like me. The monkey mind insists it’s selfish to say “No.”
The new-more-confident-midlife-me has learned that I can do a heckuva lot more good having a self, than being a passive, selfless, simpering goody goody. Because here’s the dark side of that old pattern. Resentment. Which leads to low self esteem, low energy, stress. And those downers all get in the way of the closeness with those we love that we aspire to during the holiday season.
So, how about putting on your big girl pants this year and saying a polite, “No thank you,” instead of “Sure,” when whatever it is that’s being asked of you doesn’t brighten your inner light? I’m here to hold your hand.
Because YOU shining brighter is the best gift possible for all those who love you and matter most to you. [Refer to my previous post on Indra's Net to learn more about that.]
Here’s one of my Not To Do’s: I will NOT be shopping on Black Friday. Not even going into a store, except maybe the coop for provisions to take on our day trip south along the Mississippi to watch bald eagles, and possibly Tundra swans. [Check out my post from last year about Buy Nothing Day.]
Let me know, in the comments box below, what you decide to put on your Not To Do List this year. I can’t wait to hear! We can inspire each other by staying true to our intentions, even in an often challenging time of year.
For me, this season is all about BEing instead of DOing. Join me for Restorative Mindful Nature in Tree of Life’s cozy treetop studio to rest, relax and renew with some of that “me time” you’ll be freeing up by making your own Not To Do List. Info coming really soon. Be sure to join me on Facebook because there will be a sweet savings opportunity on this one very soon!

On my *NOT* to do list:
Just because it is expected during the holidays, I will not attend family gatherings unless it feels sparkle-giving : )
That’s a big one @paula. You sparkle girl!
